Job Duties:10% Employee will assist the Manager of Occupational Safety and Health Programs with all documentation needed to demonstrate compliance of applicable standards related to hazardous materials.10% Employee will be a member of the Local Emergency Planning Committee and serve as the MUSC representative at LEPC meetings. Employee will provide a synopsis of each meeting for the Manager of Occupational Safety and Health Programs. Employee will also serve on the MUSC Emergency Management Committee and play an active role in ensuring hazardous and infectious waste is properly managed in an Emergency Response event on campus.10% Employee will be responsible for performing inspections at the permitted hazardous waste storage building and 90 day storage area to ensure full compliance with USEPA and SCDHEC regulations, correct deficiencies and notify the Manager of Occupational Safety and Health Programs of these deficiencies.10% Employee will serve as a member of the Emergency Response Team performing on-call and trouble call duties as assigned, has and will maintain training required by OSHA 1910.120. Employee will serve as emergency coordinator in the absence of the Manager of Occupational Safety and Health Programs.10% Employee will work closely with the MUSC Biosafety Officer to ensure all biosafety equipment remains in compliance with applicable rules and regulations. Employee will coordinate activities of the MUSC biosafety contractor to ensure contractor certifies all biosafety cabinets on campus within certification time period. Employee will also ensure contractor is meeting all required aspects of current contract. 20% Employee will inspect all University laboratories and other areas which generate hazardous and infectious waste to ensure compliance with applicable USEPA, SCDHEC, and Joint Commission standards and regulations and assist the Manager of Occupational Safety and Health Programs in providing technical information to these entities in order to maintain compliance. Employee will inspect all regulated areas in the Medical Center to ensure compliance with applicable USEPA, SCDHEC and Joint Commission regulations and assist the Manager of Occupational Safety and Health Programs in providing technical information to these entities in order to maintain compliance. Designs and performs special environmental projects as necessary.  20% Employee will interact with the hazardous and infectious waste disposal contractors to ensure that all waste is picked up in a timely manner and is properly packaged, manifested and disposed of in full compliance with USEPA, SCDHEC, and Joint Commission standards and regulations. Employee will perform the task of pickup, packing, and transporting hazardous waste and infectious waste as needed, including driving the infectious waste transport vehicle.5Employee will assist the Manager of Occupational Safety and Health Programs in providing environmental training to Emergency Response Team members. 5% Performs other related and non-related duties as required.

Job summary: Employee will perform the duties of hazardous and infectious waste inspector to ensure all University, Medical Center and outlying MUSC-affiliated clinics comply with applicable USEPA, SCDHEC and Joint Commission regulations and standards. Employee will assist the Manager of Occupational Safety and Health Programs in providing technical information to these entities in order to assist them with compliance. Employee will assist the Manager of Occupational Safety and Health Programs with ensuring that all hazardous and infectious waste is properly packaged, manifested and disposed of properly. Employee will also assist the MUSC Biosafety Officer with ensuring compliance of campus wide biosafety cabinets certification by coordinating with the biosafety cabinet contractor and customers.
