Manager, Health & Safety

Up to $150k

This position is a member of the Leadership Team and plays a critical role in managing Health and Safety (H&S) programs which promote a safe work culture. The H&S Manager is responsible for leading and supporting the development of a facility-wide health and safety strategy and culture through technical support, program development, and relationship building.

The incumbent will ensure compliance with regulatory and corporate requirements as they
relate to occupational health, safety, and loss prevention. As a member of the leadership team reporting to the General Manager, the H&S Manager is expected to collaborate with his/her peers to ensure the facility succeeds in achieving continuous improvement in all performance KPI’s.

Key Responsibilities   

  • Identifies, manages, directs, and audits the systems required to limit risk factors leading to safety incidents and compliance issues; manages the continuous improvement of the mill’s H&S program.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, local, and corporate safety regulations, including but not limited to written programs, certifications, permits, documentation, and training.
  • Promotes health and safety responsibility / sustainability stewardship by:
  • Engaging with and involving employees to develop, implement, and raise awareness of programs and improvements
  • Driving results against goals and tracking progress
  • Analyzing injury / incident data for trends
  • Investigating issues and recommending improvements
  • Workers’ compensation administration
  • Responsible for site security

Required Qualifications   

  • B.S. in Industrial Hygiene, Safety Management, or Environmental Health and Safety plus
  • 5+ years of health and safety leadership experience in an industrial setting, OR equivalent years of health and safety leadership experience in an industrial setting without degree
  • Demonstrated health and safety leadership with results
  • Thorough understanding of OSHA and Workers’ Compensation regulations
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience managing other H&S professionals in a manufacturing environment

Preferred Qualifications   

  • Ability to author regulatory reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Experience performing risk assessments and audits
